ENHANCE
CSTS and the ENHANCE Alliance
The Cultural Studies of Science and Technology group (CSTS) is an associated partner of the ENHANCE Alliance (external page HOME - ENHANCE Alliance), a network of ten leading European technical universities under the “European Universities” initiative. This initiative fosters ambitious transnational cooperation among higher education institutions, aiming to promote European values, strengthen European identity, and enhance the quality, performance, and global competitiveness of the European Education Area.
European Universities are designed to establish institutionalized cooperation with systematic, structural, and sustainable impact across all university missions: research, education, innovation, and societal engagement. They serve as testbeds for transformative change in higher education.
Mission of the ENHANCE Alliance
The Alliance’s mission is to turn global challenges into opportunities by equipping individuals with knowledge and competencies in science and technology - rooted in European values - to drive responsible transformation for the benefit of society.
Work Package 6 (WP6): Transdisciplinary Lab for Societal Transformation
Our group is directly involved in WP6 focuses of ENHANCE. This work package aims to create and implement transdisciplinary formats and practices that reinforce the role of universities in societal transformation. Through collaborations between science and society, this work package develops skills to prepare current and futuregenerations for a climate-neutral, just, regenerative, and enriching future.
We emphasize scalable and transferable learning approaches and co creative practices that foster inclusion and diversity. These will form the foundation of a future learning landscape within the ENHANCE Alliance.
CSTS Contributions
We have experience in conducting and researching interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and teaching. The team contributes to the project through their expertise in designing, selecting, and applying theories and methods to facilitate transdisciplinaryand interdisciplinary processes.
We actively contribute to Work Package 6, which focuses on developing and testing transdisciplinary approaches for societal transformation. Our activities include mapping and clustering existing formats and practices for knowledge exchange and co-creation between science and society.
Together with our partner universities, we pilot, evaluate, and adapt these formats within diverse local contexts. This collaborative process will lead to the creation of a comprehensive portfolio of inter- and transdisciplinary methods and tools, designed for use across the alliance and beyond.
In addition, we aim to develop a practical toolkit to support the institutionalization of inter- and transdisciplinary research and education — helping embed these approaches more deeply within academic structures.
