Research
We conduct research in two main areas - cultural studies of science and technology with the INTERSECTIONS project, and transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary research on the ground with the DIAMOND and CoSi projects.

Cultural studies of science and technology
We analyse how interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research are imagined, performed, funded and governed. This concerns how researchers, practitioners, funders, and decision-makers from research, academia and policy (co-)produce knowledge, carry out inter- or transdisciplinary research, what hinders their practices, and how they achieve impact and address societal issues.
INTERSECTIONS – Investigating Interdisciplinarity and Transdisciplinarity: Intersections of Practices, Culture(s), and Policy in Collaborative Knowledge Production
INTERSECTIONS investigates the connections and disconnections between the realms of inter- and transdisciplinary research practices, policy and cultures. Read more about the INTERSECTIONS project.

Practice-based research: Iinvestigating research practices, outputs and impacts in Belgium-Flanders, Poland and Switzerland
To address the knowledge gap in Practice-based Research (PBR), the project pursues a transversal objective – to improve understanding of PBR – operationalized by three closely related specific objectives. Read more about the project here.

FAIR Data Practices for Qualitative Research in Transdisciplinarity
In this project we will prototype tools for FAIR qualitative data, develop standards and guidelines, and build a dialogue and community of practice focusing on the the Td research community and practices. Read more about the project here.

Transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary research on the ground
We design, select and apply theories and methods to perform transdisciplinary or interdisciplinary processes to approach complex problems and foster societal transformation. We work together with a wide range of partners and practitioners to tackle challenges such as net-zero emissions.
DIAMOND – Delivering the next generation of Open Integrated Assessment Models for net-zero, sustainable development
DIAMOND will update, upgrade, and fully open six integrated assessment models that are emblematic in scientific and policy processes, improving their sectoral and technological detail. It will further enhance modelling capacity to assess the feasibility and desirability of Paris-compliant mitigation pathways, their interplay with adaptation, circular economy, and other SDGs.
